Stenciling Ink on Black Paper with Eileen Hull’s ColorBox Blends

Hello Clearsnap Fans!  My name is Susie Bentz and I am here to share a special scrapbook page I created using Eileen Hull’s ColorBox Blends.  I love this picture of my daughter on the beach with her arms flung wide open – really emblematic of how she goes through life!  Her swimsuit really “pops” off of the background, don’t you think?  I love the colors so I decided to create a custom scrapbooking page with matching embellishments.

Mixed Media layout with Eileen Hull Color Box Blends

I started with plain black cardstock, a stencil and 2 colors of Eileen Hull’s ColorBox Blends that coordinated with my daughter’s swimsuit: Leaf and Bay.   If you have not used these inks before you may not realize that the applicator is built right in!  There is a valve that dispenses ink when you depress the sponge on your surface so it is really easy to apply and blend the inks as you go!

The ColorBox Blends have a slow drying time so they are perfect for embossing.  I sprinkled about half of the page with Clear Embossing Powder and applied heat to set.  In addition to adding shine and a little bit of texture, the melted embossing powder makes the colors a little more vibrant.

You can see in this photo that the inks that I left untreated are much softer in color.

I applied ink through another stencil to add the word “Smile” before finishing it off with embossing powder.

Next I moved on to color coordinating my embellisments!  I painted a coat of gesso on the chipboard pieces before I applied the ink.  I also used it to color the string on the tag and to stencil on the tag itself.  A very light application of the Blends on the tag created a subtle background for journaling.

This is such an amazing layout. I need to try that technique with laying down the clear embossing powder first! The inks layer over it just beautifully!!!❤
