It can be fun to use crafting tools in a different way than they are traditionally intended to be used. That is what this reverse inked stencil art project is all about. Instead of using the ColorBox Art Screens Modern Brick stencil to create the brick shapes I used it to create the outlines of the blocks.
For this project I used recycled book pages. In this case pages from Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations as my base.
I applied a layer of ColorBox pigment Ink in Thunder to the back of the stencil and then used the Design Wheel to press the ink to the recycled book page.
I then embossed it with ColorBox black embossing powder.
Within the blocks I used the Signature Essentials block letters and the Jumbled letters to traditionally stencil the words “Like A Boss” with gold ink and a mix of Gold Embossing powder and Opalescent Clear (on the “A”).
I also stamped the backing page of the book I used when inking the stencil. I will save this for another project.
I trimmed up the book page and used it to embellish a recycled cigar box with a few gold brads placed in each corner. I will be looking at all my stencils now in a new way. Not only the spaces but the image the stencil would make as well. I bet you will look at your stencils a new way and see all sorts of new art you can make with them with this technique.
