Today we’re sharing an easy DIY gift idea for the wine lover from Stefanie Girard:
How to make wine glass lampshades – by Stefanie Girard
Lampshades make great surfaces for rubber stamping and making little custom wine glass lampshades for all your friends would really make them feel special this holiday season. Download the pattern at the bottom of the post and have as much fun as I did playing around with all of your favorite stamps like the mini vintage trailer, the to-go coffee cup and the words, “Live today in all caps” and “sweet”.
I started stamping with the ColorBox petal points in the green shades and used the vintage travel trailer.
Then I added the quote and little stars from the My First ColorBox mini stamps.
For the “sweet” lampshade I did something different. I first created a background on a blank sheet of white paper with pink Petal point ink and A Silver ColorBox Mini ink pad.
Then I stamped the word “sweet” with both inks and embossed with clear opalescent embossing powder. I then traced the shade shape on the back of the paper and cut it out. For the bottom edge of both shades I used a pair of decorative scalloped edge scissors.
After the shade was cut out I then stenciled a few hearts using the Teresa Collins Signature Essentials heart stencil and some silver dots using the ColorBox Art Screens Swirl Dot stencil.
I used a solar light for the “sweet” shade and a flickering tea light for the other. I used some champagne glasses and used a tape runner to adhere the edges of the shades to fit.
I can’t wait to make more shades and try out more techniques on them. When I give them as gifts I will probably include a bottle of wine, after all my friends will like their glass for drinking as well as a little reminder of our friendship during the day as well as at night.
I especially like using the solar lights as they work great for night lights in the house as long as they get some sunlight during the day to charge.
