The ColorBox® Color Pop Premium Inks by Susan K Weckesser pack such a vibrant punch of color! I was able to use the Pigment, Archival Dye, and Premium Dye Inks all on one mixed media tag because they are very versatile and just all around fun to play with!
I created this very, rustic and grungy mixed-media tag using the inks alone for color and a bit of heavy gesso to build texture and dimension! From start to finish, the tag looks completely different, but that’s all in the fun of altering!
I began the tag by priming with gesso and blindly adding markings and color for texture. I wasn’t completely sure where I was going with the background, but I knew I wanted to do the rustic house. Once I got some interest and color going in the background, I freehand cut the house shapes and adhered with gel medium.
Because the inks are so versatile, I was able to apply them with a paintbrush and at times direct to paper! I love the different effects that each application gives, but to be honest, I mostly used my fingers to apply!
The texture of the mixed media tag comes into play when I add gesso into the mix with the inks! In this layer, I covered the entire tag with gesso; using a wet wipe, I pull the gesso back in the areas that I would like to show through.
The texture and “grunginess” becomes evident after repeating this process a few times! I love how the Color Pop Inks “pop” when applied on top of or next to the gesso! I also use a regular permanent ball point pen to make markings around different elements of the tag.
Once the texture was where I wanted it, I add the final layer of colors on top in various areas. I was even able to mix “Kiss” and “Sky” inks together to get a shade of purple! I used “Ice” to color the house and “Cocoa” around to the house and chimney for dimension.
I added stamping in various spots using Color Pop Archival Ink in “Mystery.”
To finish, I added chipboard stars, wire, and Color Pop Metallic Pigment Ink in “Shimmer” to the window and other areas of the tag for a little glimmer! This mixed media tag was a ton of fun to create! Are you willing to give your fingertips a “Pop” of color today? Let us see your creations!
