I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for quick and easy DIY project ideas for holiday decor. This Dia De Los Muertos wall hanging was just that-quick and easy! The best part-I used Marisa Pawelko Surfacez Inks to ensure that I will be able to use this for many years to come; these inks are very hardy solvent inks that can be used on metals, plastic, and even glass surfaces!
I will show you how to create the wall hanging using minimal supplies!
To begin, I paint a round piece of foam with black gesso; paint all sides that will be visible.
Once the foam is completely covered, let sit and dry (I wouldn’t advise heat tool drying).
Once the piece is dry, it’s time to colorize and adhere the electronic die-cuts! I really had the idea of longevity in mind when I created the wall hanging, hence, the Surfacez Inks; Marisa Pawelko’s Modern Surrealist line has very vibrant colors that are perfect for the bright and festive flowers! I had originally planned on making this gal’s hair black, but knew it wouldn’t stand out from the background. So, I decided to glitz her up with a funky but blingy color using Smooch Spritz in Silver Foil and Platinum.
I applied adhesive to the title and gave it a light dusting of Donna Salazar’s Twinkle Dust glitter.
All that’s left to do is to adhere the additional pieces of the skull in place and cover with a layer of sealant; this ensures that the pieces are protected and not going anywhere!
How will you challenge yourself with our Marisa Pawelko Surfacez Inks? We would love to see your creations! Stay tuned for more festive projects!
