Hi! Susie Bentz here today sharing a travel canvas featuring some of the newest colors of ColorBox Pigment Ink from Clearsnap!
I created this canvas to move some of my favorite travel quotes from a Pinterest board to a place in my home where I could actually enjoy them! The new Stonework ColorBox® Art Screen inspired the design of this canvas. I positioned it on the canvas and held it in place with washi tape. I used more washi tape and paper to mask off the areas I would not be working on immediately.
I love working with ColorBox® Pigment Inks because of the vibrant, opaque colors! The palette for this canvas includes some of Clearsnap’s newest colors: Pool, Spa, Cement, and Turtle. I also included a couple of my favorite classics: Lavender and Heliotrope. I started with a light application of ink across the entire area to get a base of color in place. I then made a heavier application of ink around the edges, blending for a smooth transition.
I re-positioned the Art Screen several times, rotating and flipping it to vary the design and making sure to carry the design out to the edges. Once I had the entire canvas done, I used a heat gun to set the ink.
One of the wonderful things about pigment ink is that it is perfect for embossing because of the slow drying time. I reached for my ColorBox® Souvenir Stamps and inked them with Pepper. To make sure I had nice, clean impressions I did 2 important things:
- I placed a stack of coasters beneath the area of the canvas I was going to stamp on to support it and keep it from flexing.
- After inking each stamp I used a baby wipe to clean up the edges.
I wanted to show you why I heat set the background before stamping. The first image you see below is from my finished canvas. You can see the embossing powder only adhered to the stamped icons, really making them “pop” off the background. In the second image, even though I waited more than 24 hours after I created the backgrounds with pigment ink, you can see that embossing powder still clung to a large area and the result was that the stamped icon was obscured. That is because of the slow drying time, so remember to heat set your background!
When I was done stamping all the icons, I used a permanent black ink pen to hand write my travel quotes. I added a die cut title and arrows…and then I decided to add one more detail! I went back to some of the areas that I had left blank and taped the original Stonework Art Screen in place, masking around the edges. Next I taped the Cobblestone Art Screen on top and inked through both of them using the Top Boss® Embossing Mini Stamp Pad.
I sprinkled on Clear Embossing Powder, tapped off the excess and finished it off with the heat gun. Voila! Tone on tone texture!
Here’s another look at the finished canvas:
The really cool thing about this design is that it can be adapted to many themes. Instead of travel, share your favorite quotes about home or friends. Choose your favorite shades of ColorBox® Pigment Ink and create something personal and unique!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to play today! Susie
